Guides for setting up checks, understanding confirmation, wiring alerts, and running status pages.
Getting started
Accounts, checks, regions, and your first alert.
- What is Status? The concepts behind Status — accounts, checks, regions, confirmation, and alerts.
- Create your account and start a trial Sign up with just an email, add a card to start a 7-day trial on the plan of your choice, and sign in with a one-time code, a passkey, or an authenticator app.
- Invite your team and choose roles Invite teammates, give them the Owner, Admin or a custom role, and see how seats and invites work.
- Choosing a plan What Starter, Professional, and Enterprise include, and how annual billing and upgrades/downgrades work.
- Your card and renewals One card per account, paid by card only. How the trial's automatic charge and yearly renewal work, what happens if a payment fails, and how to replace or remove your card.
- Invoices and taxes Billing details, currency, GST/HST, numbered invoices and credit notes.
- Sign in and account security Email codes, passkeys, authenticator-app 2FA, recovery codes, re-verification and signed-in sessions.
- Support access and the activity log Status support sees nothing of your monitoring data unless you turn access on; you can turn it off at any time, and everything support does is logged.
Check types
HTTP, TCP, DNS, SSL, domain, ping, and heartbeat checks.
- HTTP checks Monitor a URL's status code, response body, and TLS certificate, with custom headers and basic auth.
- TCP checks Confirm a host and port accept connections, optionally sending a probe string and matching the reply.
- DNS checks Resolve A, AAAA, CNAME, MX, TXT, or NS records against a chosen resolver and optionally match expected values.
- SSL certificate checks A failed or expired certificate counts as downtime; advance expiry warnings (30/14/7/1 days out) are separate and don't.
- Domain expiry checks A domain check watches registration expiry, not your certificate. A failed lookup counts as downtime; advance warnings don't.
- Ping checks ICMP echo checks with a configurable packet-loss threshold.
- Heartbeat checks A dead-man's-switch URL your job calls in — miss the grace period and Status raises it.
Confirmation
How multi-region quorum stops false alerts.
- How multi-region confirmation works A failing check is re-checked from other regions before an incident opens, so a single flaky vantage point never notifies you.
Alerting
Email and webhook channels (push coming soon), thresholds, and signing.
- Email and webhook alert channels (push coming soon) Wire checks to email and webhook channels, with per-check attachment, verification, and automatic disable on repeated failures.
- Customizing webhook payloads and security Map Status's events onto your own ingestion format with a safe template engine, HMAC signing, and a link to alert policies.
- Alert policies The per-check options that decide when you are alerted and how often - confirmations, alert delay, recovery notices, re-alerts, escalation, slow response, timeout bursts and flapping.
Incidents
Acknowledge, annotate and post updates on incidents.
- Managing incidents How incidents open, how to acknowledge them, add internal notes, post public updates, and open one by hand.
Status pages
Public status pages and email subscribers.
- Create a status page Share a hosted public status page for the checks you choose, with an optional password gate and email subscribers.
Maintenance
Hold alerts during planned work.
- Maintenance windows Schedule a window over one check, several, or your whole account so planned work doesn't notify anyone.
Reports
Monthly uptime reports and summary emails on every plan.
- Uptime reports Monthly and custom-range uptime reports for every check on every plan, summary emails, and CSV/PDF downloads on Professional and Enterprise.
API
Keys, scopes, and the public v1 API.
- API keys and scopes Manage checks, alert channels, and incidents from your own tooling with a scoped v1 API key.
Troubleshooting
Fixes for common monitoring surprises.
- Why didn't I get notified? A checklist for tracking down a missing alert — from unattached channels to auto-disabled webhooks.
- Why is my check flapping? How to tell a genuinely unstable target apart from a confirmation threshold that's too sensitive.
- SSL and domain expiry warnings Why you got a certificate or domain expiry warning, what it means, and how to adjust the thresholds.
