Signing up takes two steps: verify your email with a one-time code, then add a card to start your trial. A card is required to start a trial — it isn't charged during the trial.
What you need
An email address, and a credit or debit card. You can optionally name your account (for example "Acme Ops"); if you leave it blank, Status names it after your email.
What happens on signup
- You enter your email (and, optionally, an account name). Status emails you a one-time code; enter it to verify your email and create your account.
- You choose a plan — Professional by default — and add a card, verified (with 3-D Secure where your card issuer supports it). Your card is not charged during the trial.
- Your 7-day trial starts on the plan you chose, with that plan's full entitlements (checks, intervals, status pages, alert channels, and so on).
You (the signer-upper) become the account's Owner. Each account has exactly one Owner. You can hand ownership to a teammate later.
A free trial is available only if your email address and card haven't already been used for one in the last 12 months, and no more than three trials have started from your IP address in the last 30 days. If you're not eligible, the card step offers to subscribe (and charge) right away instead of starting a trial.
Signing in
Status doesn't use passwords. Sign in with a one-time code emailed to you (enter it to continue), or with a passkey — a device credential (Face ID, Touch ID, Windows Hello, or a security key) that needs no code at all. If you've turned on two-factor authentication in Settings → Security, the emailed-code sign-in also asks for a current authenticator-app code (or a recovery code, if you've lost access to the app).
During the trial
Everything works on the plan you chose. Your card isn't charged during the trial. On the day the trial ends, we automatically charge your card the plan's annual price for the year ahead, unless you cancel the trial before then, in which case it ends on its end date and you're not charged — we email you a reminder 3 days before the charge. See Choosing a plan for what each plan includes, and Your card and renewals for how billing works.
Next steps
- Add your first check — pick a check type and point it at something you want watched.
- Set up an alert channel — email or webhook — so you actually hear about incidents.
- Invite your team if others need access.
